RAISING THE BARRE | The Romantic Ballet
October 23-24, 2021 | New York, NY and Online
Nineteenth-century ballets have a specific style that separates them from other classics. How have ballet legends mastered dancing and staging these beloved works while bringing life to the artistry and avoiding museum-like stagnancy? With a special focus on the enduring classic, GISELLE, this workshop will be hosted by Cynthia Harvey. Attendees will engage in discussions and classes with artists and experts including Maina Gielgud, former Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet and expert on the stylistic nuances of Giselle, and Alastair Macaulay, former critic from THE NEW YORK TIMES, writer, and historian. Other esteemed Guest Artists for the weekend include Robert La Fosse, Rubén Martín, Caridad Martinez, Amanda McKerrow, and Cory Stearns. Students receive coaching on variations and pas de deux from GISELLE and LES SYLPHIDES in addition to daily technique class and attending panel discussions.
