The port de bras, or carriage of the arms, in ballet is designed to frame and enhance the balletic positions. "Good port de bras can create harmonious accents and can assist in making the most difficulty balletic movements appear more coordinated," explained Cynthia Harvey, Artistic Director of the ABT JKO School and National Training Curriculum. "It can help to create a character and emphasize the full beauty and amplitude of a dancer. The two-day "Art of the Port de Bras" workshop will feature lectures, demonstrations and discussions led by Harvey, along with guest instructors Susan Brooker, Hilary Cartwright, Allison Eggers, Irina Kolpakova and Olga Melnikova.
